Are you listening to your bodies voice?

Life often makes us put our pain aside in order to push ourselves forward.

We are too busy to stop, and check in with our body, too conscious of missing our exercise class because we will get ‘fat’ or we will be seen as lazy, and weak.

There is too much pressure to keep going, to be strong and achieve results. Results we believe will only come from excruciating exercise regimens, regardless of the pain and injury it is further causing.

Sometimes we seek results that are unattainable, unattainable because our body is barely functioning at above normal.

Sometimes the results we chase don’t bear fruit, but we still keep going, pushing, shoving, guilting ourselves and ignoring our inner voice, the voice of our body.

That pain you feel, that is your body begging you to breathe, rest, reset, & connect to it.

We all know that pushing forward in a stressed body only adds to the pain, and thus the mental load.

Somatic movement is all about understanding the mind-body connection.

If we look at somatic from this perspective it starts to make sense that your pained body is affecting you mentally. We all know pain is exhausting, why? Because moving and functioning in a pained body pulls on your internal resources, causing you to get exhausted and the more you pull on your body and its reserves the more you stress it, mentally and physically.

People often wonder how somatic aids in weight loss, something as a society we are consistently obsessed with, unfortunately!

As you participate in somatic you ease your pain, as you ease your pain you ease your body and mental weight. As you heal that pain ,you start to see the excess weight falling off, this weight was your pain, it was your toxic mental overload, it sat with you like a comfortable blanket.

Once you start to introspect why you were in pain, why you continue to push your body, and further stress it, you start to see your mental health gets the love and affection it needs.

You start to see that the ease of somatic movement loosens the weight sitting on your body, and it starts to melt off.

Somatics is not claiming to be a weight loss machine, but we all know what stress does to our body.

When you approach somatic from the perspective of healing and connection, you start to experience the many benefits of it, decreased stress, decreased pain, better sleep, and the loosening of what we can only call sticky stress weight.

 The love effect of somatics

As I healed my body my depression lifted and my confidence increased.

Looking back it felt like depression specifically of the body, loss of love for a body that had carried me all my life, the disengagement with my body, halted my ability to connect with it.

The lack of love kept me in a perpetual loop of pain. Which in turn kept me depressed.

Somatic movement is movement in love

As you activate love, you release a hormone called oxytocin, a neuro inhibiting neurotransmitter, which is shown to reduce pain.

When you move your mind into a space of love, and release oxytocin, when you move your body with love you move softer, kinder, and connect deeper, you learn to fall in love with your body maybe for the first time ever.

Reviews are always personal, but what is more personal than a review is the patient's own experience of pain.

Pain is personal

You know how the saying goes, ‘a problem shared, is a problem halved’.

As a society we often train people to work through the pain, look past it, ignore it

The main conundrum here is if you choose to not address the actual pain, the pain will not halve but multiply until your life comes to a standstill.

Living with pain is debilitating & overwhelming

The ego attached to pain wants to be so right about the pain, the ego wants us to have it, eat it, sleep with it, and get absorbed by it.

Yes, even pain has an ego

Pain, physical pain is so rarely talked of, because if we are honest we believe that we should be  stronger, push through, try harder, push push push….

Look up pain in the dictionary, it lists similar words - suffering, agony, affliction, torture, torment, discomfort, on and on…torture, let that sink in for a moment.

Pain is not borne from nothing, and that is the beauty of unraveling your body and the world it resides in through somatic yoga. When you unravel pain beneath it is trauma, heartache, stress, anxiety etc etc

And if you don't address it, and you push your pained body too far, it drops onto the next rung of the pain ladder, and your next inevitable ‘gift’ to your body is actual sickness…

This client's pain had turned into sickness, dependency on medication, and a loss of the ecstasy that is life…

<For privacy purposes lets call our client M.V.>

The last few months have been a particularly difficult time for me reaching a low rung of the ladder, losing the will for anything even small pleasures in life, which was hard for someone of general high energy.

With the weight of everything I started suffering from chronic acidity over the last few months with burning heat coursing through my abdomen and body.

It had become disabling, draining me of sleep, energy and appetite.

The somatics yoga therapy has been a Divine intervention

From the early sessions it started to relieve the tension in my body, making me realise how physically tight and tense I’ve been holding myself for years.

For a start I started to sleep better. Gradually on a deeper level, in the process of the breathing with love, which Hina constantly instills in you during the sessions, it started to shift my regular breathing pattern outside the sessions. As a result it began to infuse with the energy in my daily actions which are becoming more conscious with a flavour of calm. As we progressed, I felt and feel this energy transfusing into my deeper layers.

After many years of trying to understand self love, I am finally feeling glimpses of it.

At that turning point, the acidity started to reduce significantly, I am off the medication, sleeping better and my being is feeling calmer and finding it’s mojo again..

It is a work in progress

I am Eternally grateful Hina. Thank you so much.🙏

Healing from trauma

Connecting with my mind, connected me to my body

Connecting with my body connected me with every muscle and nerve.

connecting to connect

to heal

to love

My trauma and pain gently nestled in every part of every muscle and nerve.

Encasing it in my body, my ego stopping me from pushing past it.

Pain that tells many stories.

pain from betrayal

pain from heartbreak

pain from inadequacy

pain from abuse

My womb trauma so tight, and detached

hollow

The gateway to my whole body

broken

The two separate parts of my body acting as one, but both functioning in different dimensions.

Sometimes the pain is from this life, sometimes it is passed on from generation to generation, by words, actions, doing, we subconsciously and sometimes consciously are handed this gift of trauma, trauma from previous generations, & lived trauma.

my trauma sat energetically in my body

~manifesting

I pushed my body to its limits

I sought perfection

my body ego fandangled my mind ego into letting it take over

my body broke down for me.

I hurt my body

my trauma taught me how

Surrender to the ego in your mind, will surrender the ego in your body & allow consciousness to spread.

Let.

Go.

5 benefits of meditation

We have all heard it before. Meditating is not for me! It’s too frustrating and hard. It only is the reflection of how cacophonic our lives sometimes feel. We are often trying to get someplace quiet or leave meditation for vacations is sometimes the only option left.
Everybody who starts off meditating always has a question. How does this work?  is thinking getting in the way of meditating? Oh, wait no, I can’t meditate. But the beauty of meditation is the fact that even just taking out 5-10 mins in a day to relax your mind or to even give it a center can do wonders!
Meditation helpin bringing your mind and body aware of what you are feeling in the present. To be able to distinguish your emotions as well as give yourself permission to feel truly in the moment and recognize it.

Here are 5 amazing benefits of Meditation

Focusing on the present -
While this might seem a really cliched point. It’s 100 percent on the money. At the beginning of Meditations, you could feel jittery or distracted by thoughts. But the idea is to just observe them and notice how you feel in the present

Solving problems and creativity -
Meditation has been said to lead to higher brain integration, thanks to breathwork and concentration. Even if it is just for 10 mins, it helps you be calmer in situations that might be stressful and be able to deal with it better.

Meditation helps in easing pain -
Meditations such as Mindfulness meditation have been known to help with chronic discomfort such as neck and back pain, arthritis, recurring headaches. Meditation helps in opening up your senses, it helps in isolating and relieving parts of your body and mind that feel or are knotted.

Meditation helps you heal faster -
meditation may help to restore the body’s balance. It helps you to align yourself and your mind so it can work better for you. You must be familiar with “what you eat is what you become” well adding meditation to this diet only has pros!

Meditation helps you sleep better -

Sleep is one thing that human beings love and seem to be running away from it quite often. Just 10 mins of meditation before you go to sleep helps you relax your body and allows you to fall asleep faster.

Hope these benefits help you in some way in your meditation journey. At Somaticayoga, you get guided somatics sessions, which is a meditative and mindful form of exercises. If you're interested in meditating, reach out to me by commenting here or emailing me at somaticayoga@gmail.com, and I will guide yoy through your mind.

Testimonial

I am incredibly pleased today to be able to share with you a testimonial from a very special client of mine. Words like hers continue to motivate and inspire me everyday. I am so happy to be on this journey and to be able to help people along the way. To anyone reading this, if you are in pain do read this and spark the change in your life today.

“When Hina walked into my life it was like an angel from somewhere beyond my imagination, silvery sparkly hair like a halo on her head.
To heal.
To help.
To connect.

Connecting with the muscles in my body, connected me to the pain and stories that lay within every fiber of those muscles.
I am often told to ground myself, but sometimes these pieces of free, have little meaning when you are in the middle of an ungrounded storm of sorts.
Grounding yourself is different for everyone.
I needed to ground myself in my body, to reach my pain and through intentional, slow, impactful movement through somatic yoga I could start to heal.

Hina’s gentle, positive yet loving touch can heal even the most skeptical among us.
My pain felt like a birthing story. Literal contractions, legs raised and spread ready to deliver. Though I am not with baby.
It is possible I am / was having a literal re-birth of myself.
Hina is the doula I didn’t know my body needed.”

I am grateful for her kind and moving words. This journey with her has just begun, and as a life’s accumulation of trauma slowly starts to fade away I am excited to see how see blooms like a flower turning to the sunlight. Here’s a photo of her looking peaceful in between her somatics session with me. Notice how calm she looks.

Exercises for every age. 6 to 86.

Somatics is a form of exercise that can be done by any age. Whether it’s your young child or your old parent/grandparent, anyone can learn to move intentionally. Somatics is not just to recover from injuries, but also to learn your mind and body’s connection. So you can live better and have a clearer mind.

Take a look at my youngest student with her grandfather, doing Somatics movements. Learning at a young age, gives you a greater chance of succeeding in future because adults are more averse to learning as opposed to kids. Kids are like sponge, they absorb everything around them. So if you have a kid, make sure to enrol them for Somatics to help guide them through understanding the capabilities of the body. And for everyone else, it’s never too late to treat your body better. Start today.

Contact me at somaticsyoga@gmail.com for consultation and sessions. People in Mumbai, India may avail in-person offline sessions as well.

Quote of the day

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life... It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity... It turns problems into gifts, failures into success, and mistakes into important events. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.”

Lavender and its benefits

Welcome to Lavender Week!

If you're looking to calm both the body and the mind, look no further than Lavender. There are many varied species of lavender, all differing in their aromas, characters, and blossoming. 4 types especially stand out: The Lavender Vera, The Lavender Spike, The Lavender Stoechade, and the Lavandin Super.

Lavender oil is a multi-purpose essential oil derived from the lavender plant. It is produced by distilling the harvested flowers, and the essential oil depends on the lavender species and composition. It is how it can be customised according to individual needs and then applied to the skin, and breathed in through aromatherapy.

Some Benefits –

·       It helps you sleep deeply, and helps with insomnia

·       It helps relieve stress and fights anxiety

·       It helps soothe your skin

·       It can ease headaches.

·       It gives you naturally glowing skin

·       Last, but not the least, it smells wonderful.

Back pain? Or is it something more?

CLIENT TESTIMONY -
"At the end of our concluding session, I felt an intensity in me which I had lost. Now I sleep better, and deeper too. My back feels healed."

One thing I have learnt form my years of experience is that what you may feel is a physical injury, or physical fatigue may be much more. Here was one such client...She came to me complaining about her back troubles. Since she was not in the same city as me, we decided on video-call sessions. She told me about her back pain, and I heard her clearly. But I wondered if there was something more.

After our first session, I figured she had sleeping problems as well. Now was this stemming only from her back issues? Probably not. So I dived deeper into her growing pains.

In the next few sessions, I understood she was facing unchecked depression. The way your body feels, is also about how you feel mentally.

Through our next many Somatics sessions, we worked on not just her back, but we also worked on deep meditative exercises to help her start sleeping better and focussing better.

It went so well in fact, that she flew to my city to take in-person classes till she healed completely. Slowly, her back recovered, but most importantly, she came out of the sessions, stronger mentally and ready to take on the world. She felt better not just physically, but mentally as well.

Dear reader, if you want to take on your challenges in life and get ahead, through complete physical and mental healing and transformation, contact me here. Take care.

Recovery from injuries for senior citizens in India

Client Update:

One of my newer clients is an elder woman who is 70+. Our journey together began when I got a call from her family, telling me that she was suddenly bedridden, unmoving, and they needed my assistance to help her get back up. Here’s how she recovered –

Day 0:

Because we were still in the Lockdown phase, we scheduled a video call. I noticed that she was lying down on the bed, yet uncomfortable. So the first step I took was to ensure that even in bedrest, she was healing… that is why I got her family to fix her ergonomics, and how she was lying down.

Day 1:

Our actual first session. Because of her age, she hadn’t done a lot of video calls. Add to that, doing sessions with me would make her admit that there was indeed something wrong with her. So she was very anxious and nervous. But I have to praise her, she gathered the courage to come online and practice with me.
I gave her a personalised routine that would enable her to walk again.

Day 7:
She could start getting up from bed. Progress. Small, but progress nonetheless.

Day 9:
This is when we started seeing a major difference. Not only was she getting up, but as I kept encouraging her, she was able to take a few steps as well.

Day 14:
She started to maneuver around the house by herself. She could go to the loo by herself, or join her family for food at the dining table as well. The family was overjoyed to see her being able to walk again.

What I discovered as her coach:
As a person who has seen 70+ years of the world, she had lesser of a hip problem, and more of a mental hesitancy towards recovery after the injury. As a holistic trainer,  I spoke to her the way she understood…the way a senior citizen understands. This is a God-loving woman who had started believing that God was punishing her. So I asked her why would God punish his own creations. We spoke about her aatma (soul). She told me her pain. And from there, I was able to calculate the pain points in her body. Physical pain can be caused by mental pain as well. She was carrying her trauma and fear after her injury which she was not able to let go of,  before my classes.  So by working on her mental baggage, she was able to get better physically as well. At her age, she is fragile. And injuries like these can easily shake senior citizens’ will. But professional help and encouragement go a long way towards recovery. Today, she feels much more light and nimble than in the last few years. And as her coach, I am extremely happy. To conclude, here is a picture of her from one of our sessions. She is exercising with dedication and focus, while on the bed because of her inability to sit up.

And now, below is a picture of her at the end of my sessions with her, sitting upright and well-balanced…recovered from physical and mental trauma.

5 reasons to go Vegan

At Yugen Naturals, all products we sell are organic and vegan. If you want not just a vegan diet, but a began lifestyle - It is one of the ways to adopt surrounding yourself with products that enhance that choice. For people still deciding and wondering why should you go vegan in the first place, here are 5 reasons why –

1.       For our planet’s animals.
There’s way too much cruelty these sentient beings face every day. Not only are they killed to be eaten, but even in their lives they are tortured and made to go through inhumane conditions. By going vegan, you take an obvious stand against animal cruelty.

2.       For your health.

A well planned vegan diet contains all the nutrients you need, making a complete balanced diet. Plus, it is also a great opportunity to learn about nutrition, cooking, and maintaining your diet. So many people are lactose intolerant and they don’t even know it until they go vegan.

3.       For the environment.

There are many many ways killing animals is unsustainable for the environment. A few of them being things like, overfishing to the extinct of depleting aquatic resources, or even increasing carbon footprint due to the sheer amount of animals needed to be killed for meat.

4.       There already are alternatives!

When we already have vegan-alternatives, why torture and kill animals? Soy-milk, almond-milk, cashew-milk, mock-meat, soya-meat and so much more that taste just like the original things. So why not just have the vegan alternative and be empathetic towards animals?

5.       For people

Raising so many animals, feeding them, putting resources like carbon, food, water etc. on them is a huge burden even on humans when the world’s future looks bleak. Saving these resources becomes important for our fellow humans as well.

Sciatica Pain Relief + Recovery with Somatics Yoga

If you’re feeling pain in your back, and are looking for a solution, you have come to the right place. This pain might be Sciatica and with my years of training and expertise, I can help you heal and recover, and most importantly, live a healthy happy life.

How to know if it’s Sciatica?

It’s simple as the fact that if you’ve had it you just know. It’s a pain in the spine, that radiates from the lower back down to the hip and leg. The pain becomes worse when sitting, and makes the leg feel numb with pain. For extreme cases, one might feel difficulty in moving the leg itself. All of this is caused by the Sciatic nerve – the largest nerve in your body that runs form your spine all the way down to your leg.

Most of the time, Sciatica is the result of a herniated disc. On fewer occasions, its something even more severe like tumours or degenerative disease.

But the most common reason of it all, is just normal day to day imbalances. If you’re staying sitting for too long, have the wrong posture etc. without acting on fixing it, and gain a tight lower back, it becomes the #1 reason in developing sciatica.

Some warning signs of sciatica to look out for include –

Persistent lower back tightness

Mild tingling or occasional numbness in the leg, foot, or toes

Imbalanced body mechanics or posture, such as functional uneven leg length or scoliosis

How Somatics Yoga can help:

is slow, intentional movements that help restore your muscles by re-educating your nervous system. Since it is so slow, and not high-impact, people of all ages and fitness levels can do this. You can do this without straining yourself or hurting yourself further. It connects your mind to your body, and your body to your mind. When these two communicate well with each other, it becomes easier to be more mobile, improve balance, and reduce pain.

Things like Sciatica can be solved, slowly and gently with Somatics Yoga. So you can heal, and live a strong healthy life like you deserve to.

Fitness Myth Busting with Hina Sampat

Many people have wrong assumptions about what keeps their body fit, and active. A lot of us keep up with the latest fitness trends, even workout regularly, but at the end of the day, we’re still sore, right, and something or the other just feels wrong.

Today we are debunking myths about fitness.

MYTH #1: No Pain = No Problem

Your muscles over time get tighter and tighter over the years. Resistance training only rapidly increases the speed. The years of tightness keeps building up. So even when you feel no pain, doesn’t mean you have no problem. Have you ever suddenly hurt your back? Or suddenly your knee gave up one day? It happened randomly, right? Not really. It was the result of this unforeseen tightness.

MYTH #2: Stretching is the answer to the problem

Stretching doesn’t solve all issues. Especially static stretching. Yes, it might elongate some muscle fibres, but those are not the deep, affected muscle fibres. So the effort will barely make a difference.

MYTH #3: Massages/chiropractic sessions can solve the pain

When dealing with pain, massages or chiropractic sessions may help you, sure. But it won’t resolve your pain. We should be preventing this pain from happening in the first place. And the answer to that is not massages. It is intentional, deliberate movement. Like Somatics. Or Yoga. Best of all, SomaticsYoga.

Contact me for a free consultation, and get to know more about how to keep your body fit without falling for myths.

Exercising for post natal recovery

After the birth of your baby, your body goes through big changes. Your  abdominal muscles need recovery, your back is susceptible to injury, your abdominal organs can also shift forward due to a lack of support. Then there is also the case of wanting to go back to your previous body shape.
Postnatal Somatics plays a vital role in your recovery. Exercising, especially Somatics, has many health benefits. These are all the more important to new moms as they assist with weight loss, fitness, muscle recovery, toning, and even boost your mental & psychological wellbeing.

  • Help restore muscle strength, and restores the body's firmness.
  • Increases your energy levels, making you less tired.
  • Helps shed weight.

  • Targets and conditions the weakest abdominal muscles
  • Very importantly, it aids in preventing postpartum depression and alleviates stress.

A few advantages of Postnatal Somatics -

A question that naturally arises at this point is, when can you start exercising again?

The answer is simple. Gentle exercises like walking can generally be started as soon as one wants, after giving birth. It depends from woman to woman. Consult a doctor to see if you've recovered enough to start exercising. Usually, the time of
recover is 6 weeks. If you had a caesarean birth, a difficult birth, or complications, it may take a little longer to feel ready to start exercising. It's recommended to start lightly and avoid high impact sports.

Creating time for postnatal exercise -

When you're caring for a newborn, finding time for physical activity can be challenging. Some days you may simply feel too tired for a full workout. But that doesn't mean that you should put aside physical activity. Here are a few things you can try -

  • Exercise with friends or family. Company is great!
  • Keep your baby around while exercising. Like, while you do abdominal exercises on the floor, keep your baby next to you.
  • Break down the exercises into ten minute chunks through the day.
  • Don't be too hard on yourself. Remember, this has bee a big shift. You will take time.
  • Take your baby for walks, if you've completely missed exercising.

For everything, I am here to help. I will take sessions with you to guide you, take you to your best self, and help you recover. With years of experience and knowledge, I can assist you in the way you and your baby need. Feel free to get in touch with me for more information

Somatics for expecting moms

Somatic Training is a term applied to a way of working WITH the body. So you understand yourself better. Today there are many types of Somatics. Like it is used by professional dance companies, professional sports teams and athletes to improve performance and prevent injury. One more use of Somatics is helping you during Pregnancy as a form of prenatal care.

For your pregnancy, it is important that you and the baby feel one. As your body changes you need to be aware of everything going on. And this can be very difficult. This is where Somatics can help. In your rapidly changing world, Somatics slows it down and helps you understand yourself and your child better.

So how do we work during the prenatal period? By training your mind. The mind can have a profound effect on the body and our health, going as far as to say that the mind can heal the body. You just need to awaken your inner chakras. This is the sense that tells you all you need to know about space: the space inside your body...the space around you. Introducing a pregnant woman to feeling space, body breathing, and positive messaging is an effective way to wake up and empower her inner chakras. And, trusting your chakras is essential for the pre and perinatal journey. Having children brings many unique challenges and stresses that often surprise parents. While practicing muscular release exercises may not be the first thing you’d think of as a way to deal with these stresses, Clinical Somatics exercises reduce stress levels, makes you more present, and helps you deal with both the physical and emotional challenges of having a child. How do we do this? In a few ways like -

  1. Feeling Space - Close your eyes and bring your awareness to your body. Take a tour of your body. See where you feel the stress. See where it feels different. Know yourself.
  1. Body Breathing - When you breathe through your body, you live in the present moment. Then with every inhale and exhale you are able to let go of the tensions and stresses. Body breathing helps a mom-to-be relax at the moment. As the pregnancy advances and the uterus begins to crowd the front, the back and side ribs expand to allow more breathing space.  So when you’re pregnant and doing somatics, you create a rhythmic flow with your child with your breaths. This makes you one with your child and leaves the infant very comfortable. There’s a reason that birthing coaches encourage women to practice breathing and body-centered meditation in preparation for labor and delivery.
  1. Strengthening Core Muscles and the Pelvic Floor -  For all the pressure created in the body as the baby makes space, the core muscles need to be strengthened for stronger breathing. Somatics helps create proper core balance. Also, just as important is managing the tight back muscles along with the inactive abdominal muscles. New moms often face this issue, making them stand with an arched back that hurts their hips, spine, and stomach. So Somatics helps fix this as well.
  1. Posture correction - As the mother’s body changes, the posture adapts for the baby. But it is important to revert to the original correct posture to reduce stress, and ease recovery. With a balanced posture, new moms can take care of their baby all day long without feeling fatigued, or face stress.
  1. And Beyond  - Beyond this, there are many exercises that I will take you through to make you feel healthy and fit. You can contact me today for a free consultation and know more. All my contact details are on my blog.

HEADACHE AND MIGRAINE RELIEF IN 1 WEEK WITH SOMATICS

Those who get frequent headaches will know, a migraine is a disorienting problem that almost defies description. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be here to know more about it. Apart from experiencing pain on one or both sides—which often begins with a sharp know at the base of your neck —you feel like your head is going to just blast. The smallest movements hurt. There's a pounding in the head that feels almost blinding and crippling. And then, your symptoms can be felt throughout your body. During an episode, the sufferer can become really sensitive to light, and sound as well. Then there's nausea, vomiting, sweating, chills, diarrhea, and mood changes.

If all of this sounds familiar, carry on reading. We’ve got something for you.

There are 2 big reasons for your headache. One is our repetitive daily movements. Like the way you move, or sit, or stand. That is your posture. In these muscles needed for continuous movement, we end up building tension The other main reason is of course, as seen a lot in this fast-paced world - stress. It’s hard to imagine, but our muscles tense up even with psychological stress. Believe it or not, it’s a fact.

Many headaches, including tension, sinus, and migraines, can be healed during our Somatics session. We help reduce muscular tension wherever you may store it. Be it your neck, jaw, or even your shoulders and back. It helps you gently take the power of your own health, so you can regain the life you have without migraines. Because with Somatics you learn to be present in the moment. Too feel each and every movement and sensation in the body and learn how to let it go completely. That way, you can let go of the migraine as well. With our somatics classes, we do particular movements that will help solve your headache issues.

First, we’ll close your eyes. and then with your hands behind your neck, you will turn your head to the side and raise it ever so slowly. As slowly as you possibly can. Feel it.
