Self-Care lessons from gardening.

We are here. On our wonderful planet. And most of us would agree, our purpose is to flourish. But how can we flourish? Where do we learn how to flourish? The world doesn’t come with guidebooks. Or does it?

When a seed that we plant, does not grow or does not bear fruit, we say that the plant did not flourish. The same could be said for us. When we do not fulfill our potential, we can say that we have not flourished. So when in a rut, we can learn to turn it around from plants as well

Here are some lessons on flourishing I learned from growing an avocado plant:

This avocado was gifted to me by my friend. I decided to keep the seed and grow the plant. So what we have, keeps giving when we decide to nourish it.

When feeling down, water. Hydrate yourself.

When not blossoming, nourish. Eat well. Take care of your nutrition. Clean your diet. See the changes.

When nothing seems to be working, re-pot. Check your soil - your foundation. Find the cracks. Then rework.

Once you are growing, let your focus be unwavering. Get yourself some light, and go upwards and onwards. Be like a plant. All of your growth lies in stillness. No one will notice you growing. But one day, you will be strong as a tree. Give yourself time and patience.

Skincare for Women and Men

We’re conditioned to seeing self-care products separated into 2 categories - “For Men” and “For Women”. The first category is typically presented with “masculine”  forms, like beer shampoo, or cigarette soap, even “tough face washes for tough men”. This stereotype can be harmful because is there really any solid reasons why skincare for men and women should be different?

In fact, men have an advantage over women in skincare - They shave. Once a day, men gently peel away the outer layer of dried dead cells from their faces. This makes the skin look younger! This process of abrasion is actually called exfoliation and it is very healthy for your skin. So, although men and women do have differences in their skin, the skincare routine isn’t dependant on gender. It’s actually skin type. So today, we are here to bust the myth of beauty and self-care being reserved only for women.  Here’s a handbook on skincare. Now remember, this is valid for both men and women. Men shouldn’t be shying away from looking like the best version of themselves.

Your skin is not just a delicate covering on the surface of your body that needs pampering. It is a complete living organ. In fact, it’s the largest organ of the human body. How good it looks, depends on firstly your genes. And then, how well you look after it. That is, how you protect it from the environment and you care for it. Your skin very accurately depicts how your health is and how your body is functioning. In fact, it can tell when you’re stressed too. Seriously. Stress pimples are a real thing, look it up! So it’s super important to take care of it. Understood. But how do we do it?

The 2 most important things in play are diet and exercise, before anything else.
It is impossible to maintain healthy and glowing skin without exercising regularly and keeping your pores unclogged + detoxed. Then what you eat, vastly fluctuates how your skin feels. The cleaner, more unprocessed food that you have, the better your skin will feel. It tends to not like fried unhealthy food. Some people are lactose intolerant as well and it will show on their skin. So, find the diet that suits you best. Notice what makes you break out and what keeps your skin fresh.

And then we come to the rest of your skincare.
Your skin fights daily rough environments. Whether it’s pollution, the sun’s rays,  lack of moisture, or dust, your skin is faced directly with it. This challenges its natural state of living. Your skin starts reacting. It shows signs of premature aging, eruptions, dryness or oiliness, and bland pale skin. So you need to be aware of how to keep clean. Know what nutrients help it heal. How to treat it and protect it. And so much more.

So it is important for you to make daily skincare a part of your routine.
First, cleansing, removing the dirt.
Then using a serum to give your skin radiance and remove fine lines.
And then occasionally using a mask to remove dead cells from your skin to retain your natural youthful look.
Now, the chemically pumped products n the market do more harm than good. They fluctuate your ph levels, your oxidation, and many more things internally. You need something natural, that treats your skin gently. The way nature has intended.

One simple Somatics Yoga exercise to boost COVID-19 recovery.

Recovering from COVID-19 is a complicated process. Issues like difficulty in breathing, loss of stamina, and tiredness is a common complaint from those who have contracted the novel virus.

But once you have beaten the virus, you must take steps to return to your original fitness levels.

Somatics Yoga can help you recover gently. With its sharp focus on mindful slow movements, it won’t stress your body too much while also making sure you’re being able to breathe properly. This is really important because at any cost, you must not exert yourself beyond what your body permits. This differs from person to person but even those who have been following some kind of fitness regime before testing positive need to be cautious of their health and take it slow. And Somatics Yoga is perfectly slow for this kind of recovery.

Do this exercise every day to begin your road to recovery -

  • Start with gently laying down flat on your tummy. You can do this either on a mat, or if you don’t have access to a mat, you can do it on the floor.
  • Keep one arm to your side, and the other beside your face.
  • Turn your head to this side of your raised arm.

Now, this position makes breathing easier by allowing deeper, longer breaths. But it doesn’t stop by just lying in this position. It’s only the beginning.

When you’re down at this position, you need to inhale slowly. Very slowly. Even slower than what you’re imagining. And then exhale just as slowly. With control and focus over your breath. This brings a whole new world of relaxation in your body, that you will only experience when you try this out for yourself.

Continue this till you’re in a state of complete serenity.

With the many invisible lung problems that COVID-19 is threatening us with, this very simple exercise can make things a lot easier for you. It’s only one of the many ways that Somatics Yoga can help change your life. Ask for a free consultation session, and I will be happy to talk to you and guide you through your recovery to great fitness & health. Till then, take care and stay safe!

Special Mother's Day Gift Package

Our mums don’t ask for much, apart from unconditional love. So show your love this Mother’s Day with something special for her. Something special that helps her unwind, and put her feet up. Because she’s spent a lot of time running around for you. It’s time to pause and take a deep breath. We’ve prepared these special packages for moms only, including roll-ons, lotions, chakra balancing oils, meditation & somatics yoga sessions and more. Each product is made to take care of moms like they care for their children. These are organic, vegan, cruelty-free products, and every one of them is handmade. They are chemical-free as well. All this sums up to make products that will not be harsh, instead it will gently soothe the skin. And the added meditation session will make sure that she is in a peaceful space, so she can take it forward to be the best version of herself. So this Mother’s Day, don’t just gift something that lasts a day. Gift something that stays in her heart.

Gift Box #1 for new mums contains -

1. Stretch Marks cream for mom

This handmade cream helps prevent stretch marks. It even reduces existing stretch marks.

2. Diaper Cream for baby

This cream is essential for any mother to soothe, and prevent, her baby’s rashes. It heals by creating a layer of protection against harsh diapers.

3. Baby Sleep Tight - Calming Sleep blend

The Baby Sleep Tight is the perfect blend of relaxing stimulants via natural essential oils that keep a baby healthy and calm.

4. Baby Teething Relief blend

This blend is a holistic approach to pain relief for teething babies.

5. Colic Relief blend:

Colic, in simple terms, is when a baby cries. A lot. A baby may be colic if he/she cries for hours at a stretch. This is stressful for both, the mother who finds it painful to see her child cry, and the baby, who can’t explain why it's crying.
The colic relief blend relaxes and heals the child, and in turn makes the mother feel better too.

Gift Box #2 contains -

Meditation Oils of three different kinds to help mom relax, and arrive at a sense of calm and peace. These 3 heal 3 different chakras to soothe the body and mind.

Gift #3

You can even take this opportunity to give her something truly unique. Instead of gifting her more things, you can show your love by giving her something for herself. Something that will improve her life twofold. Book her a guided chakra balancing meditation session, or even a one-on-one Somatics Yoga session on video call, to heal her and improve her mental & physical state.
