Back pain? Or is it something more?

CLIENT TESTIMONY -
"At the end of our concluding session, I felt an intensity in me which I had lost. Now I sleep better, and deeper too. My back feels healed."

One thing I have learnt form my years of experience is that what you may feel is a physical injury, or physical fatigue may be much more. Here was one such client...She came to me complaining about her back troubles. Since she was not in the same city as me, we decided on video-call sessions. She told me about her back pain, and I heard her clearly. But I wondered if there was something more.

After our first session, I figured she had sleeping problems as well. Now was this stemming only from her back issues? Probably not. So I dived deeper into her growing pains.

In the next few sessions, I understood she was facing unchecked depression. The way your body feels, is also about how you feel mentally.

Through our next many Somatics sessions, we worked on not just her back, but we also worked on deep meditative exercises to help her start sleeping better and focussing better.

It went so well in fact, that she flew to my city to take in-person classes till she healed completely. Slowly, her back recovered, but most importantly, she came out of the sessions, stronger mentally and ready to take on the world. She felt better not just physically, but mentally as well.

Recovery from injuries for senior citizens in India

Client Update:

One of my newer clients is an elder woman who is 70+. Our journey together began when I got a call from her family, telling me that she was suddenly bedridden, unmoving, and they needed my assistance to help her get back up. Here’s how she recovered –

Day 0:

Because we were still in the Lockdown phase, we scheduled a video call. I noticed that she was lying down on the bed, yet uncomfortable. So the first step I took was to ensure that even in bedrest, she was healing… that is why I got her family to fix her ergonomics, and how she was lying down.

Day 1:

Our actual first session. Because of her age, she hadn’t done a lot of video calls. Add to that, doing sessions with me would make her admit that there was indeed something wrong with her. So she was very anxious and nervous. But I have to praise her, she gathered the courage to come online and practice with me.
I gave her a personalised routine that would enable her to walk again.

Day 7:
She could start getting up from bed. Progress. Small, but progress nonetheless.

Day 9:
This is when we started seeing a major difference. Not only was she getting up, but as I kept encouraging her, she was able to take a few steps as well.

Day 14:
She started to maneuver around the house by herself. She could go to the loo by herself, or join her family for food at the dining table as well. The family was overjoyed to see her being able to walk again.

What I discovered as her coach:
As a person who has seen 70+ years of the world, she had lesser of a hip problem, and more of a mental hesitancy towards recovery after the injury. As a holistic trainer,  I spoke to her the way she understood…the way a senior citizen understands. This is a God-loving woman who had started believing that God was punishing her. So I asked her why would God punish his own creations. We spoke about her aatma (soul). She told me her pain. And from there, I was able to calculate the pain points in her body. Physical pain can be caused by mental pain as well. She was carrying her trauma and fear after her injury which she was not able to let go of,  before my classes.  So by working on her mental baggage, she was able to get better physically as well. At her age, she is fragile. And injuries like these can easily shake senior citizens’ will. But professional help and encouragement go a long way towards recovery. Today, she feels much more light and nimble than in the last few years. And as her coach, I am extremely happy. To conclude, here is a picture of her from one of our sessions. She is exercising with dedication and focus, while on the bed because of her inability to sit up.

And now, below is a picture of her at the end of my sessions with her, sitting upright and well-balanced…recovered from physical and mental trauma.

5 reasons to go Vegan

At Yugen Naturals, all products we sell are organic and vegan. If you want not just a vegan diet, but a began lifestyle - It is one of the ways to adopt surrounding yourself with products that enhance that choice. For people still deciding and wondering why should you go vegan in the first place, here are 5 reasons why –

1.       For our planet’s animals.
There’s way too much cruelty these sentient beings face every day. Not only are they killed to be eaten, but even in their lives they are tortured and made to go through inhumane conditions. By going vegan, you take an obvious stand against animal cruelty.

2.       For your health.

A well planned vegan diet contains all the nutrients you need, making a complete balanced diet. Plus, it is also a great opportunity to learn about nutrition, cooking, and maintaining your diet. So many people are lactose intolerant and they don’t even know it until they go vegan.

3.       For the environment.

There are many many ways killing animals is unsustainable for the environment. A few of them being things like, overfishing to the extinct of depleting aquatic resources, or even increasing carbon footprint due to the sheer amount of animals needed to be killed for meat.

4.       There already are alternatives!

When we already have vegan-alternatives, why torture and kill animals? Soy-milk, almond-milk, cashew-milk, mock-meat, soya-meat and so much more that taste just like the original things. So why not just have the vegan alternative and be empathetic towards animals?

5.       For people

Raising so many animals, feeding them, putting resources like carbon, food, water etc. on them is a huge burden even on humans when the world’s future looks bleak. Saving these resources becomes important for our fellow humans as well.

Sciatica Pain Relief + Recovery with Somatics Yoga

If you’re feeling pain in your back, and are looking for a solution, you have come to the right place. This pain might be Sciatica and with my years of training and expertise, I can help you heal and recover, and most importantly, live a healthy happy life.

How to know if it’s Sciatica?

It’s simple as the fact that if you’ve had it you just know. It’s a pain in the spine, that radiates from the lower back down to the hip and leg. The pain becomes worse when sitting, and makes the leg feel numb with pain. For extreme cases, one might feel difficulty in moving the leg itself. All of this is caused by the Sciatic nerve – the largest nerve in your body that runs form your spine all the way down to your leg.

Most of the time, Sciatica is the result of a herniated disc. On fewer occasions, its something even more severe like tumours or degenerative disease.

But the most common reason of it all, is just normal day to day imbalances. If you’re staying sitting for too long, have the wrong posture etc. without acting on fixing it, and gain a tight lower back, it becomes the #1 reason in developing sciatica.

Some warning signs of sciatica to look out for include –

Persistent lower back tightness

Mild tingling or occasional numbness in the leg, foot, or toes

Imbalanced body mechanics or posture, such as functional uneven leg length or scoliosis

How Somatics Yoga can help:

is slow, intentional movements that help restore your muscles by re-educating your nervous system. Since it is so slow, and not high-impact, people of all ages and fitness levels can do this. You can do this without straining yourself or hurting yourself further. It connects your mind to your body, and your body to your mind. When these two communicate well with each other, it becomes easier to be more mobile, improve balance, and reduce pain.

Things like Sciatica can be solved, slowly and gently with Somatics Yoga. So you can heal, and live a strong healthy life like you deserve to.

Fitness Myth Busting with Hina Sampat

Many people have wrong assumptions about what keeps their body fit, and active. A lot of us keep up with the latest fitness trends, even workout regularly, but at the end of the day, we’re still sore, right, and something or the other just feels wrong.

Today we are debunking myths about fitness.

MYTH #1: No Pain = No Problem

Your muscles over time get tighter and tighter over the years. Resistance training only rapidly increases the speed. The years of tightness keeps building up. So even when you feel no pain, doesn’t mean you have no problem. Have you ever suddenly hurt your back? Or suddenly your knee gave up one day? It happened randomly, right? Not really. It was the result of this unforeseen tightness.

MYTH #2: Stretching is the answer to the problem

Stretching doesn’t solve all issues. Especially static stretching. Yes, it might elongate some muscle fibres, but those are not the deep, affected muscle fibres. So the effort will barely make a difference.

MYTH #3: Massages/chiropractic sessions can solve the pain

When dealing with pain, massages or chiropractic sessions may help you, sure. But it won’t resolve your pain. We should be preventing this pain from happening in the first place. And the answer to that is not massages. It is intentional, deliberate movement. Like Somatics. Or Yoga. Best of all, SomaticsYoga.
